Leadership Development

Leadership is the it factor in any successful group or organisation; educational organisations are no exception.  Leadership is ‘the most powerful influence on learning outcomes, second only to curriculum and instruction’ (Leithwood et al. 2006), influencing both teacher effectiveness and student engagement (Harris 2008).  It works because those who operate with leadership are operating with ownership.  Where people experience ownership, they operate with care, naturally providing the highest quality service that they can (Block 2001).

There is a demand for new forms, expressions and practices of leadership in schools. Eliciting and supporting leadership as a quality and not just a position can allow schools to secure and sustain improvement and enable the reformsthat are being called for.
